WEAVERVILLE - It is with heavy hearts yet joyous spirits that we announce the passing of a remarkable soul, Carolyn Buckner Evans, who gracefully ascended to the loving embrace of the Lord on the serene morning of Saturday, October 4, 2025, at the age of 77.
Born a radiant gem on April 10, 1948, amidst the verdant hills of Buncombe County, Carolyn spent most of her cherished days enveloped in the heart and spirit of her beloved community. A true conversationalist at heart, she delighted in engaging with everyone she encountered, spreading warmth and kindness wherever she roamed - whether it be at the bustling grocery store or amidst the spirited holiday shopping cacophony. For 32 years, she devoted herself to her role at Square D, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and friendship. Yet, the crown jewel of her existence was the inseparable bond she shared with her daughter, Kristy. Together, they basked in the joys of getting their hair and nails done, exemplifying a mother-daughter relationship that was the envy of many, radiating love and understanding in equal measure.
Carolyn was the beloved daughter of the late Ralph Noah and Mary Elizabeth Justice Buckner. She was warmly welcomed into the arms of eternity by her cherished husband of 58 years, Stokley “Delane” Evans, as well as her dear sisters Wilma Sue Buckner, Wanda Arrington, Linda Reavis, and Mary Jo Smith, and her brother Ralph Buckner, Jr., who now await her in eternal peace.
Left to savor the sweet memories of her vibrant life is her adored daughter, Kristy Norton, and her devoted husband, Stephen; her loving sisters-in-law, Ruby Jo Buckner and Latona Wetzler; brothers-in-law Earl Arrington, Weldon Reavis, and Howell Smith; her ever-faithful friend, Ella Norton; a plethora of delightful nieces and nephews; and, of course, her cherished little fur babies, Millie and Harley, who provided endless joy and companionship.
A celebration of Carolyn's extraordinary life will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at the Locust Grove Baptist Church, where Rev. Brian Hanrahan and Rev. Walter Ponder will officiate this memorable gathering of love and remembrance. Following the service, familial love will guide her to her final resting place in the church cemetery, where her vibrant spirit will forever accompany the gentle whispers of the wind. The family will receive friends from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service, creating an atmosphere of collective love and remembrance.
