BRUCE DOUGLAS “DOUG” DAMATO, II ASHEVILLE – Bruce Douglas “Doug” Damato, II, age 44, of Asheville died unexpectedly on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at his home. Doug was born January 11, 1973 in Charlotte, NC. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Dot Neighbors and John and Eleanor Damato. Doug was a 1991 graduate of David Emanuel Academy and later graduated from Asheville Buncombe Technical Community College with a degree in mechanical engineering technologies. He was employed by the Putsch Group where he proudly worked as an engineer. He also enjoyed working at Wild Hare Catering where he was involved in backstage operations. Previously, Doug worked in the restaurant industry for many years on St. Simons Island, GA where he never met a stranger. He loved music (especially Widespread Panic), cooking and spending time with his family and friends. Doug and his wife, Sarah, met in Mississippi where they worked tirelessly to help rebuild after hurricane Katrina. He was a caring and devoted husband to Sarah and they enjoyed the beauty and peacefulness of the French Broad River, while taking care of their two dachshunds, Zoe and Uga. Doug is survived by his wife, Sarah Fazzino Damato of Asheville; parents, Nancie Neighbors Stanford and husband Mike of St. Simons Island, GA, and Bruce Douglas Damato, Sr. and wife Carol of Jacksonville Beach, FL; two brothers, Todd Damato and wife Wyndi of Fitzgerald, GA, and Richard Angel and wife Heidi of Ft. Worth, TX; mother-in-law, Madeline Fazzino of Higganum, CT; father-in-law, Salvatore Fazzino and wife Lisa of Wallingford, CT; brother-in-law, Chris Fazzino of Higganum, CT; sister-in-law, Amy Fazzino of Breckenridge, CO; three nieces, Gracen Damato of Fitzgerald, GA, Natalie and Emily Angel of Ft. Worth, TX; two uncles, John Neighbors of Asheville, NC, and Earl Damato and wife Dorothy of Athens, GA; The Rogers Family – Lucy, Amy, Britt, Jr., Jennifer, and Stephanie; and many friends whom he considered his family as well. His memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 7, 2017, in the Chapel of Edo Miller Funeral Home, Brunswick, GA.
