Billy "Joe" Merrill

WEAVERVILLE – Billy “Joe” Merrill, went to his heavenly home on January 5, 2024. He was the son of the late Guy and Brejetta Jarvis Merrill. He was a loyal member of Antioch Baptist Church in Weaverville.

Joe is survived by his wife of 66 years, Jane Jenkins Merrill; son, C.D. Merrill; granddaughter, Sheresa Merrill Slagle (TJ); great grandchildren, Aubree and Urijah; granddaughter, Holly Merrill; his beloved sister, Patsy Hawkins (Art); niece, Heather Weaver (Matthew); and great nephews, Charlie, Benjamin, and William.

Joe worked at the Asheville Fire Department for over thirty years as a firefighter and was a volunteer at Barnardsville Fire Department for 23 years.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at West Funeral Home in Weaverville. Other times the family will be at home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Antioch Baptist Church at 9 Antioch Church Road, Weaverville, NC 28787.
