CANDLER – B. Elaine Haynes Eastland, age 83, of Candler passed away on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at her residence.
Elaine was born on March 4, 1943, in Durham, North Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Buel Laxter and Bonnie Velma Burleson Haynes and was wife of the late Lloyd Walter “Sonny” Eastland, Jr.
Elaine grew up in Asheville, NC and attended Lee Edwards High School. Many weekends were spent with her mother and father in Barnardsville visiting with family. Elaine and Sonny met on a blind date and quickly realized they were right where they were meant to be and married soon afterward. While raising three children, Elaine returned to her education and attended nursing school. During her long nursing career, she worked on the cardiac stepdown unit, and the pediatric ICU. She especially enjoyed working in psychiatric nursing. She was head nurse of the adolescent and child unit at Appalachian Hall, a private psychiatric hospital. Elaine loved art, painting, dancing, and spending time at the beach. Her beloved dogs were a joy of her life.
Surviving are her daughters, Vicki L. Eastland and spouse Regina Tunney, Renee Eastland Clements and husband Ted Clements; son, Lloyd W. “Wally” Eastland, III and wife Pamela Ludgin Eastland; grandchildren, Brendan Clements, Rhiana Eastland, Zach Schmitt, Erin Schmitt, and Lee Eastland; and one great grandchild, Temperance Clements.
Memorial services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Monday, July 13, 2026, at West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville with Rev. Robert Hartmans officiating. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation to the American Heart Association or your favorite animal rescue can be made.
