Almer “Lamar” Swann, 94, of Simpsonville, SC, went to be with his Lord and Savior on September 19, 2026. Lamar was born July 28, 1932, in Weaverville, NC, to Almer and Mayce Bradley Swann.

Lamar served his country for two years in the United States Army. He went on to work for 37 years at Glidden Paint Company, where he retired at 63 years of age. Lamar had a deep love for the game of golf, where he was affectionately nicknamed “Little Man.” He loved all sports, especially the Gamecocks. Lamar truly loved children, and all children loved him in return. "Papa" was a title he was incredibly proud of. Quick-witted and known for assigning playful nicknames, Lamar had a natural knack for making everyone laugh.

Lamar was a loving and devoted husband to Betty, the love of his life for 64 years, who preceded him in death. He is survived by his loving sister, Juanita Swann Gilbert; his three proud children, Tracy Swann Major, Phillip Swann, and Tammy Swann Brown; and his four grandsons, Marcus Brown, Michael Brown (Breia), Matthew Brown (Mercedes), and Brandon Swann. He was also blessed with, and loved seeing, his great-grandchildren, Chasity, Cali, Jeremiah, and Amara. Lamar was a joy to all who knew him and leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and special friends who will miss him dearly.

A memorial service celebrating Lamar’s life will be held on Sunday, October 18, 2026, at 2:00 pm at Pleasant Grove Union Church in Weaverville, NC. This church is very special to the Swann family. Lamar and Betty will be laid to rest in the church cemetery following the memorial service.
