LEICESTER—James "J.G." Garrett Fox, age 80, of Leicester, died Monday, October 1, 2012, surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Fox was born September 17, 1932, in Yancey County. He retired from the US Army as Sgt. First Class after 22-1/2 years of service. He served in Vietnam from 1967-1969 where he was awarded two Silver Stars, two Bronze Star medals, and a Purple Heart. He was a member of Turkey Creek Baptist Church where he formerly served as a deacon. He was a son of the late John Arthur and Zilla Arrowood Fox. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Delovia Fox, Opal Blankenship, Nola Miller; and brother, Bobby Gene Fox. Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Inez E. Fox; daughter, Corean Fox Wagner; sons, Gary Fox and wife Lynn, Dwayne Fox and wife Helga, Wayne Fox and wife Debra, and Steven Fox and wife Sheila; brothers, Farris Fox and Doyle Fox; ten grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and a large extended family. His funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, October 4, 2012, in Turkey Creek Baptist Church, with Revs. Ricky Townsend and Roy McPeters officiating. Burial will be in Turkey Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with military rites by the Buncombe County Veterans Council Memorial Team. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday at West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, where the body will remain until placed in the church one hour prior to the service.
