WEAVERVILLE – Kermit J. Jamerson, 85 of 21 Greenridge Road died Sunday, January 24, 2010.
Mr. Jamerson was born March 16, 1924 in Yancey County to the late Asbury W. and Dessie Revis Jamerson. He was a resident of Buncombe County for most of his life and retired from Appletree Chevrolet, where he was a salesman. After retirement he spent time helping his sons lay rock and paint. Kermit loved a good cigar, mowing grass and baseball. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Weaverville. In the mid to late 1960’s he sang with the Kingsmen Quartet. He also sang with the Deep South Quartet, Friendly Five, All American Quartet, Sheriff’s Quartet and others. He was preceded in death by brothers, Kyle, Coy, Don and Gray Jamerson and sisters, Vera Rice, Marie Jamerson and Genevieve Clay.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Alene McKinney Jamerson; sons, Rev. Jerry Jamerson and wife Nancy, Rick Jamerson and wife Loretta and Mike Jamerson and wife Valere all of Weaverville; sister, Ilene Graham and husband Jim of Laurinburg; brother, Bruce Jamerson and wife Carolyn of Weaverville; seven grandchildren, Heather and Clint Jamerson, Melissa Staude and her husband Stephen, Emily and Alisha Jamerson, Matt Jamerson and his wife Tiffany, Rob Jamerson and his wife Rachel; great grandson, Hayden Jamerson; numerous special nieces and nephews and caregiver, Kerri Whitted, who became the “sister” his boys never had.
Mr. Jamerson’s funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 27, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville with son, Rev. Jerry Jamerson officiating. Burial will be in West Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at West Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the residence.
